Stop Buying Garlic. Here’s How To Grow An Endless Supply Of Garlic Right At Home

Although garlic has been used throughout history by many great civilizations for its medicinal benefits, scientists have only recently confirmed the numerous health-giving and nutritious properties of this herb.

Scientists have also found that garlic is most healthy and nourishing due to its sulfur compounds which are formed when it is crushed, chewed, or sliced.

Allicin – the pungent oily liquid found in garlic – is an unstable compound which is present in fresh garlic only for a brief time after it is minced or crushed, but has potent antibacterial qualities.

Some of the other compounds that give the garlic its healthy properties are diallyl disulfide and s-ally cysteine.

Below are just some of the health benefits of garlic:

1. Garlic belongs to the onion family and is grown for its distinctive taste, smell, and numerous health advantages that it owes to its presence of sulfur.

2. Garlic, besides being low in calories, is packed with vitamin C, vitamin B6, and manganese, and contains other nutrients such as copper, potassium, calcium, vitamin B1, iron, and phosphorus.

3. Garlic supplements reduce the symptoms of common illnesses like the flu and common cold.

4. If consumed in high quantities, garlic is thought to regulate high blood pressure and hypertension and, in some cases, supplements may be as effective as some over-the-counter medications and drugs.

5. Garlic supplements also lower LDL cholesterol, especially in those who have high cholesterol. It does not seem to have any effect, however, on HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

6. Antioxidants in garlic protect the cells from aging and damage, thus lowering the risk of mental conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

7. A study has even confirmed that garlic can lower lead toxicity and alleviate similar symptoms.

8. Although more research is needed, garlic seems to have some benefit for bone health by increasing estrogen levels in females.

How to grow garlic at home:

In order to preserve its amazing taste, cut off the blooming flowers. You can only oil it up when it reaches up to 5-6 leaves.

First and foremost, make sure you have a fresh garlic bulb. Break it into cloves and plant them a few inches deep in a loose, moist soil, with their pointed side facing upward.

Water it occasionally to help it sprout, but do not overdo it as garlic does not require much water.

To make sure it retains its unique taste, make sure you cut off the blooming flowers, and only oil it up once it grows 5-6 leaves. And that is pretty much that. Now you can enjoy the wholesome benefits of your home-grown garlic, and there are plenty of them.
